OO Programming Newsletter #17 from Bruce Eckel = = = Contents = = = * Status of Hands-On-Java CD, 2nd ed. * Status of Java Solutions Manual * Researching JPython for TIPatterns * Enterprise programming postponed * Objects & Patterns Workshop nearly full * OOAD Seminar proves popular * Prague EJB company seeks investors After about 8 non-stop months, I finally have unscheduled time in my calendar, so I've been unwinding and beginning to work on projects that have long been on the back burner. = = = = = = = = = = = = * Status of Hands-On-Java CD, 2nd ed. Things have settled down with the new version of the seminar, as I've now given it several times and have been able to polish it. I'm about ready to start recording, and I've even bought an iMac to ensure it works there. It will be at least a month or two before it's ready to ship. If you buy the 1st edition of the CD within two months of the release of the 2nd edition, you'll get a free upgrade. For everyone else, the upgrade will be half-price, but you'll need to mail in the original sleeve with your check. I hope this upgrade policy will seem reasonable. = = = = = = = = = = = = * Status of Java Solutions Manual I've gotten a lot of questions about the Java solutions manual, despite the web page: http://www.mindview.net/TIJ2/SolutionGuide.html Unfortunately, Chuck Allison has taken a new day job and will not have the extra time anymore to work on it, so until I figure out what to do it will be delayed. Sorry about that. = = = = = = = = = = = = * Researching JPython for TIPatterns I've discovered there is hardly any documentation on JPython, so I've been researching and figuring it all out. I'm now in the process of writing the "Interpreter" chapter in "Thinking in Patterns" and plan to post the new revision in the next week or so. http://www.mindview.net/TIPatterns/index.html I'm also planning on having a discussion group rather than the comment collector that I've used for TIJ and TIC++. This would be through egroups or Topica. If you know of a better service, please let me know! = = = = = = = = = = = = * Enterprise programming postponed When Dave was out teaching Corba we agreed that we didn't know enough about EJBs to give this seminar. So it's on hold until we know what we're doing. = = = = = = = = = = = = * Objects & Patterns Workshop nearly full This is definitely the most popular workshop we're currently giving. The August 28 - September 1 dates will fill up in the next few days, and at that point we'll have to wait-list you. http://www.mindview.net/JavaDesignPatternsIdioms.html = = = = = = = = = = = = * OOAD Seminar proves popular In the last newsletter I talked about giving a new seminar on OO Analysis, Design & Development, for programmers and technical managers who need an introduction. The idea was popular enough for me to create a Web page (although I haven't yet decided when to give it). This is still preliminary: http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/EssentialOODevelopment.html = = = = = = = = = = = = * Prague EJB company seeks investors Amaio is a three-year-old company in Prague which specializes exclusively in EJB technology; you'll rarely find a group with as much experience in this new field. If you're interested, contact mvlcek@amaio.com (please note that Europeans tend to go on vacation about now...). ___| Until Next Time... |________________________ Java programming questions: http://www.mindview.net/TIJ2/JavaQuestions.html Speaking & Seminar schedule: http://www.mindview.net/Calendar/Calendar.html Anyone can sign up for this newsletter by sending an email to join-eckel-oo-programming@earth.lyris.net.
