The last Hands-On Java Seminar of 2000 takes place November 13-17 in 
Emeryville, CA (across the Bay Bridge from San Francisco). The next one won't 
be until February 19-23 (also in Emeryville).

The Objects & Patterns seminar Dec 11-15 in San Diego, CA is filling up, so if

The new, improved "Thinking in CORBA with Java" seminar takes place January 
22-26, 2001, in San Diego, CA.

* Status of Hands-On-Java CD, 2nd ed.

I expect to finish the initial recording sessions in the next couple of days. 
Then it's on to the second editing pass and re-checking everything. But early 
November is still looking good. 

If you haven't tried the demo and you have a little time, please do so and

Again, the 2nd edition CD is NOT ready for sale -- this is only a beta. If you 
just can't wait, then if you buy the first edition now you are well within the 
window to get the 2nd edition as a free upgrade when it comes out. Since 
you're on this mailing list you'll be automatically informed when it is 
available and how to upgrade.

* Any 'Ant' experts?

I'm trying to move to the Java-specific build tool at 
http://jakarta.apache.org/ant, and having some problems figuring out 
dependencies (my packages are getting rebuilt every time). If anyone would be 
willing to give some pointers, please reply. Thanks.

* Web site changes

I'm rewriting the pages on the web site so some of them may be a little flaky 
while I shake things out. I'm going "luddite" on the site and making all the 
pages hand-edited since I've gotten fed up with the lack of good tools for 
automatically generating Web pages. Most likely, the only automation will be 
done by Python. 

The pages are *supposed* to look the same as they did before. Once this (and a 
few other things) settle out I'll be working on improvements.
