It's one of the best things I've done to date (see below for version 2). It also points out that if the price is right ('free', in that case) people can make it. The folks in the working session verified that costs were indeed a big issue with corporations; training budgets have been put on hold. And we've since had to postpone the Design-A-Day Practicum (which we're renaming "Extreme Design"). So the situation remains: if you think you want to come to a seminar, sign up NOW, because without you it might go away! You can find all the seminars listed on the calendar: http://www.mindview.net/Calendar =================================== * Zope BackTalk working session July 7-10, Crested Butte, Colorado Coming up in one week (!) is a special working session for a project that Chris McDonough of Digital Creations (makers of Zope, see www.Zope.org) and I have been working on for an even better online annotation system. If you have created Zope applications and can swing the schedule, it should be exceptional (it will be for *me*, anyway). http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/BackTalkWorkingSession/ =================================== * Version 2 of the "Thinking in Patterns Working Session" September 3-7, Crested Butte, Colorado The "Thinking in Patterns Book Working Session" was so great that I'm already planning a repeat. This one takes place the week right after the Objects & Patterns seminar, and to strongly encourage you to participate in both events I'm offering a $300 discount on the Objects & Patterns seminar if you also attend the working session. If you do not attend the seminar, the working session alone is $300, which will cover costs. In the first session we focused on filling out the basic set of patterns in the book, adding the ones that I had missed. In version 2, I want to focus on examples that demonstrate the evolution of designs, adding and changing patterns as the problem is better understood over time (similar to the last chapter in the book). This should be even more fascinating than version 1. http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/WorkOnPatternsBook/ =================================== * Objects & Patterns Seminar August 27-31, Crested Butte, Colorado This is team taught by Bill Venners and myself, based on both of our books, and it's always a great experience. http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/ObjectsAndPatterns/JavaDesignPatternsIdioms.html =================================== * Speaking at the Rocky Mountain Software Symposium July 28 in Denver Colorado I will be giving a 1/2 day presentation at the Rocky Mountain Software Symposium on design patterns, taken from "Thinking in Patterns." I will also be sitting on their "design pattern forum" panel that evening. To attend, see: http://www.completeprogrammer.net/RMSS/ =================================== * (New) The Java/Jini coached programming experience Bill Venners (who teaches the Objects and Patterns seminar with me, and is one of the prime movers in the Jini community) has created the "Jini and Distributed Computing Seminar." You don't have to be a Jini programmer or know anything about Jini to take this seminar (but you do need to be a Java programmer). One of the most interesting aspects is the coached programming experiences, which comprise a significant part of the seminar -- you may want to take this just to polish your Java design and programming skills. This one may not happen because of low numbers, so if you're interested, sign up ASAP. It will take place August 20-24 in Crested Butte, Colorado. http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/JINI/ =================================== * Thinking in C++ Volume 2 After a great C++ seminar last week, this week, Chuck Allison (who is coauthoring the book) and I are working on Volume 2 of the book, and hope to get some interesting results up on the web site soon. =================================== * Thinking in C++ Volume 1 Solution Guide Imminent In addition, the long-awaited solution guide for Volume one is actually very close to being ready. I'll send a special announcement when it is. And I apologize for the long delay, and hope to do better with the Java solutions. =================================== * Java Enterprise Programming Seminar The Java Enterprise Programming Seminar shows when, how and why to use the technologies in the Java2 Enterprise Edition. This exercise-intensive course covers EJBs, Servlets and JSPs. The next one is August 6-10 in Crested Butte, Colorado: http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/J2EE/ =================================== * Thinking in Java Hands-On Seminar We believe that this is the best in-depth introduction to Java that you'll find. August 20-24 in Crested Butte, Colorado: http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/ThinkingInJava/Java.html ___| Until Next Time... |________________________ Java programming questions: http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/JavaQuestions.html Speaking & Seminar schedule: http://www.mindview.net/Calendar/ Anyone can sign up for this free newsletter by sending an email to join-eckel-oo-programming@earth.lyris.net.
