As you might imagine, being surrounded by such minds was a very stimulating experience, but I also really enjoyed the process and learned a great deal from it. In addition, I'm slowly starting to get a grasp on Zope 3 (my web site is based on Zope 2, which I like, but Zope 3 is designed to be much easier to program and build large applications with). I hope to incorporate some of the styles from this workshop into future MindView learning experiences. =================================== * Solar Car to run Java MindView is helping to sponsor the Solar Vehicle Design Team (SVDT) of students at the University of Utah. The team is preparing to compete in the July 2003 American Solar Challenge. Another sponsor is Systronix (which I remember from my Micro Cornucopia days, see http://www.systronix.com), the producer of JStamp, a real-time native Java module. The SVDT will be using these Java processors to handle telemetry and control issues. To learn more or to offer sponsorship, see: http://www.utah.edu/solar or contact James Allison at jta@freshsources.com =================================== * New Java Answers Forum After several years of using a PERL CGI script to run the forums at Artima.com, Bill Venners recently upgraded them to use servlets and JSPs. The Java Answers Forum provides a place where Java programmers can ask and answer technical questions. Feel free to post questions there, or to help someone else out with their question: http://www.artima.com/forums/forum.jsp?forum=1 =================================== * Prague Seminars Bill Venners and I will be giving the "Objects and Patterns" seminar May 13-17 in the beautiful city of Prague. See: http://www.amaio.com/seminars/ We discount the seminars when we give them in Prague, and lodging and food is reasonable, so taking a seminar in the US vs. taking one is Prague is roughly equal in expense. See: http://www.amaio.com/seminars/prgcost.html =================================== * Summer internships in Crested Butte I will be offering two summer internships that will take place in Crested Butte, for people who are interested and capable of doing technical work on the Third Edition of Thinking in Java. Internships are normally for college students or graduate students, but we are certainly open to talented people who are in a position to take a sabbatical from the normal work world. Please note we are looking for high-caliber people who have a strong facility with the Java language. The closing date for applications is April 10th. For full details, see: http://www.mindview.net/Etc/Internship/ =================================== * Thinking in C# Real Soon Now Larry O'Brien has been busily working on the book, but we had a bit of a delay getting it up on the site. We hope to have the first few chapters soon. At the Software Development Conference, Richard Hale Shaw and I will be doing a language comparison between Java and C#, by comparing examples taken from Thinking in Java to equivalent examples taken from Thinking in C#. For schedule and details, see http://www.mindview.net/Calendar Under April 22-26. =================================== * Funny Fake Banner Ads Banner Ads We'd Like to See Linux: Preferred by Cult Leaders Everywhere http://www.valleyofthegeeks.com/Features/BannerAds.html Microsoft Ordered To Release Windows Code Judge sick and tired of rebooting http://www.valleyofthegeeks.com/News/WindowsCode.html ___| Until Next Time... |________________________ Java programming questions: http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/JavaQuestions.html Speaking & Seminar schedule: http://www.mindview.net/Calendar/ Anyone can sign up for this free newsletter by sending an email to join-eckel-oo-programming@earth.lyris.net.
