To keep track of a language that seems more independent of the usual market influences, see: http://news.digitalmars.com/ =================================== * Need Scan Converter Consultant Inspired by the DVD burner on my new computer, I'm getting ready to take another dive into the creation of video training courses. The question is: what's the best way to capture dynamic computer screen information? Many years ago I struggled with scan converters and the results were mediocre at best. But the technology has doubtlessly moved forward since then. If you know about this, what's the best way to do it? Are scan converters good enough, or is there another way? It's even been suggested that since DVD is an MPEG format, there might be existing software that captures the screen in such a way that it can be turned directly into the appropriate MPEG. If you've had success doing this, please let me know at. Thanks! =================================== * Bill Venners releases Artima SuiteRunner Artima SuiteRunner is a free open source testing toolkit for Java released under the Open Software License. You can use this tool with JUnit to run existing JUnit test suites, or standalone to create unit and conformance tests for Java APIs. The three main advantages Artima SuiteRunner offers to JUnit users are reporters, runpaths, and recipe files. Existing JUnit users can use SuiteRunner to run their JUnit tests, which allows them to gain the benefits of reporters, runpaths, and recipe files while continuing to use their JUnit test cases. http://www.artima.com/suiterunner/index.html In "Why We Refactored JUnit," Bill Venners, Matt Gerrans, and Frank Sommers explain why JUnit didn't solve their testing problems and how Artima SuiteRunner was created. http://www.artima.com/suiterunner/why.html =================================== * Bruce Eckel in San Luis Obispo From now until May I will be near San Luis Obispo, CA with occasional trips to the SF bay area, and available to speak to a user group or two during that time. =================================== * Thinking in Java, 3rd edition available now You can get the print version of Thinking in Java, 3rd edition directly from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ISBN=0131002872/bruceeckelA/ (You can see the reference that gives me a referral fee in the URL). The updated material includes: -- The latest features from JDK 1.4 -- All examples improved or rewritten -- An all-new, simplified learning approach to multithreading -- New section on unit testing, automated building, assertions, logging, and other ways to keep your programs in tune Dates: April 14-18, Boston, MA June 16-20, San Francisco Emeryville, CA August 4-8, Crested Butte, CO http://www.mindview.net/Seminars/ThinkingInJava/ * Hands-On Java CD, 3rd Edition We're just starting work on HOJ3, and it will be several months before it is available.
