OO Programming Newsletter #55 from Bruce Eckel Spring 2005 Calendar: http://www.mindview.net/Calendar Seminars: http://www.mindview.net/Seminars MindView, Inc. 5343 Valle Vista La Mesa, CA 91941 = = = Contents = = = * Thinking in Patterns Seminar * Fewer newsletters, more blogs * Thinking in Java 4th edition * Designing Objects & Systems Seminar * Training, Consulting and Project reviews =================================== * Thinking in Patterns Seminar The Thinking in Patterns Seminar is happening in Crested Butte, Colorado, in just two weeks! I will be incorporating the new J2SE5 features into the patterns material, so you'll not only get Patterns, but the new Java language features. Go here to read more and to sign up: http://mindview.net/Seminars/ThinkingInPatterns/ =================================== * Fewer newsletters, more blogs You'll notice the frequency of this newsletter has steadily declined to about once a quarter, which seems to be a reasonably comfortable rate so I plan to continue something like that (When I've gotten newsletters too often, I start tuning them out). Since the last newsletter, I started and finished a weblog on blogger.com. Although I generally liked blogger.com as a service (it's free, for one thing), they haven't put enough thought into the feedback system, so it falls prey to trolls and blog spam. The posted articles will still remain on the blogger site, http://onthethought.blogspot.com/ I have now moved the weblog to Artima.com: http://www.artima.com/weblogs/index.jsp?blogger=beckel I am still occasionally posting periodic (longer, more in-depth) articles on my site, but I will announce these on the Artima blog, so if you subscribe to that feed (or just visit the blog regularly) you won't miss anything. I'll also announce things like seminars and travel plans on the blog, in case I'm coming to your city and you have a user group that you'd like me to speak to, or you need consulting, etc. The blog will continue to focus on programming and computing-related issues; my assumption is that this is what you are interested in so I will try not to wax poetic about the cat, the snow, etc. =================================== * Thinking in Java 4th edition Here is a weblog entry that describes the state of Thinking in Java, 4th edition: http://www.artima.com/weblogs/viewpost.jsp?thread=112552 =================================== * Designing Objects & Systems Seminar Bill Venners and I will be giving the Designing Objects & Systems seminar August 8-12 in Crested Butte, Colorado: http://mindview.net/Seminars/ObjectsAndSystems/ =================================== * Training, Consulting and Project reviews The public seminars posted on the website can be delivered to your site, to save travel and lodging expenses. If you don't have enough people to justify a seminar on your own, it may be possible to team up with one or more local companies. Consulting can be tailored to your needs. My particular interest is in providing object-oriented design assistance, where I work with your team to discover or refine your requirements and to develop a domain model for your system. Project reviews generally take from 2-5 days and involve an intensive walkthrough including all or part of your team, examining your architecture, design, or code, depending on where your project is. During this process, it's likely that we'll discover numerous places where the design and implementation can be improved. The review process also offers chances for impromptu learning sessions, whenever we discover programming concepts that aren't quite clear to everyone. Because of the book, my summer is mostly full, but fall spots are available. For more information, you can email me directly. ___| Until Next Time... |________________________ Speaking & Seminar schedule: http://www.mindview.net/Calendar/ Weblog: http://www.artima.com/weblogs/index.jsp?blogger=beckel Java programming questions: http://www.mindview.net/Books/TIJ/JavaQuestions.html Anyone can sign up for this free newsletter by visiting: http://www.mindview.net/Newsletter Bruce Eckel http://www.mindview.net
